I’m Garnett Humenick, a lifelong local, a mom of two, a volunteer, and a new voice for Saanich.

I was born in Cordova Bay and raised here in Saanich, growing up through the 80s and 90s in a community that taught me the value of neighbours, relationships, and showing up for one another. This place, the people, the land, and the shared spaces, helped shape who I am.

After graduating from Victoria High School in 2000, my husband TJ, my high school sweetheart, and I moved to Vancouver to build our careers and start our life together.

For nearly two decades, I worked in film and television, learning how to solve problems, support people under pressure, manage risk, and help teams work through complex challenges. Along the way, I also stepped into labour leadership, women’s committee work, and mental health advocacy, always focused on making systems work better for the people inside them.

In 2018, after housing pressures and life shifts changed the path for our family, we made the decision to come home to Saanich. Coming back meant being closer to family, raising our kids in a connected community, and returning to the values that grounded us in the first place.

Today, with two young kids, life looks a lot like it does for many families here - school drop-offs, parks, sports, Scouts, neighbourhood walks, and the everyday conversations that tell you what’s working... and what’s getting harder.

I’m running because I believe Saanich can move past division and focus on what matters most - housing people can afford, strong families, connected neighbourhoods, and leadership rooted in listening, relationships, and finding common ground.

Because this community helped shape me... and I’d be honoured to help shape what comes next.
